New distribution Date

***UPDATE***

ATTENTION CURRENT STUDENTS!!

The new date for distribution of next year's class list has been tentatively re-scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2010. Once this list is given to you, you will still have until March 4, 2010 to submit written schedule change requests to my office,

For the class of 2011, this list should reflect all the selections that were made for you by your teachers as well as all the classes selected by you on the computer.

For the underclassmen (classes of 2012 and 2013), this list will represent your first glimpse of the courses that were suggested for you by by your teachers.

***UPDATE 2/4/2010

ALL SCIENCE COURSES ARE NOW IN THE COMPUTER! Thank you to Mrs. Ottesen (Science Chairperson) for processing so many applications so quickly!!

If you applied for a science course with an application, and were accepted, then that course should now appear on your list of courses in The Friar Portal.

If you are wondering why you did not make it into a particular science class, PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHEDULING OFFICE. These decisions were made by the Science department based on the documents submitted to them. Please remember that the mere fact that you might have had high enough grades for a course does not, in and of itself, guaranty entry into a course. Permission of the department is sometimes required in addition to a certain level of academic achievement.

Other news:

---some students are still experiencing difficulty changing their math course or adding a math course if none was recommended. If you are one of these students, send an email to scheduling@stanthonyshs.org explaining what you are trying to do, and I will enter it for you.

Remember that: If you were not placed in a Math, you can request course 3402 and you and your parents will have to sign a waiver.

If you were placed in course 3402, you may choose to take course 3352 instead and and your parents will have to sign a waiver.

If you were placed in course 3352, you may choose to take course 3402 instead. No waiver is necessary in this case.

ALL OTHER MATH COURSES CANNOT BE CHANGED, BUT THEY MAY BE DELETED. If you cannot delete a course, contact me and tell me which you want to delete.

TO REITERATE: If you cannot change/add/delete a Math course as set forth in the instructions, send me an email telling what it is that you want.
Example: "My name is Mary Q. Student. I was assigned to course 3402 by my teacher and I now want to take course 3352 instead. The computer won't let me."

I will make the change for you......

---If you cannot change an English, or Social studies class (Honors or AP to something LESS DEMANDING), then you should also send me an email. I will take care of that for you. REMEMBER THAT the teachers were instructed in many cases to put you into the most demanding course that you qualified for. So, we can freely move you OUT of honors or AP, but you will need to speak with a Chairperson to move INTO an honors class.

---If you do not see a course that you wish to add, SEND ME AN EMAIL and let me know what you want to take. Today, so students reported that they could not see Photography, Video Production, and Chemistry. There may be others.

Example: "I would like to add Video Production and I don't see the course on the Friar Portal. Please add it for me. Thank you, John Q. Student."

I will make the change for you......

---Please report any other problem that you see with the Friar Portal as related to course entry. We cannot fix what we don 't know about!

UPDATE 2/3/2010

***2:45PM FOUR SCIENCE CLASSES HAVE BEEN ENTERED INTO THE COMPUTER: COURSE 4464 AP CHEMISTRY; COURSE 4474 AP PHYSICS; COURSE 4443 MICROBIOLOGY; and COURSE 4413 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. If you applied for one of those courses and were accepted, that course should now appear on the Friar Portal. Some courses may have been deleted from your schedule to make room for this science. In most cases, it was Physics. You can delete or add courses as you may desire, but if you want to delete a course that you applied for, please send me an email so that I can let Mrs. Ottesen know that another spot has opened for that class.

I am expecting that I will receive the rest of the Science classes shortly. If your are expecting a science to be added, leave room for one credit to be added until you find out one way or another whether or not your application has been approved.

KEEP REFERRING BACK TO THIS SITE FOR THE LATEST INFO AND STATUS OF THE ENTRY OF THE SCIENCE CLASSES!

One item about the Friar Portal that is causing some confusion is the message that is displayed about the number of credits selected. The computer is telling you how many more credits that you will be permitted to enter, not how many credits you are required to enter. We may be posting a revision that makes this distinction a little clearer.

SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH FEEDBACK IF SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK! It's the way we fix things. You have to tell us. You can also tell me what you need to do and I can put it in for you! My address is scheduling@stanthonyshs.org

Here are some of the "bugs" in the system that have been reported to me:

1. Problem:The instructions say one thing about what you can do to edit Math placements, and the web site does something else.
ANSWER: We think we have that bug fixed. Try again tonight if you are in that predicament. If you were not assigned a math, you should be able to pick courses 3402 or 3443 against advisement. If you were assigned to course 3402, you should be able to choose course 3352 against advisement. If you were assigned to course 3352 you should be able to select course 3402 as an alternative. All other Math courses cannot be changed...but CAN be deleted.

2. Problem: I clicked Health and it would not add!

ANSWER: Should be fixed now. Let me know if the problem persists.

3. Problem: I was in AP ECONOMICS, deleted it, then changed my mind and want it back. I can't get it back!

ANSWER: Yes, that is the way it was designed to work. You will need to come see me or email me if you delete a class that was assigned by a teacher and want it back.

4. Problem: I want to take Photography and Video Production and they are not listed!

ANSWER: Whoops. "My bad." These courses required an application last year and I forgot to make them generally available this year. This should be corrected now. Send me an email if it is not.

More updates coming as needed. Send me an email at scheduling@stanthonyshs.org ANY TIME. I will answer you if I am conscious.

UPDATE 2/2/2010

***UPDATE**** THERE MAY BE A SLIGHT DELAY....COURSE ENTRY SHOULD BE AVAILABLE BEFORE 5PM. WE RECEIVED SOME LAST MINUTE COURSE ASSIGNMENTS WHICH WE ARE ENTERING BEFORE OPENING THE SITE TO STUDENTS.

NONE OF THE SCIENCE COURSES HAVE BEEN ENTERED YET. If you applied for a science, it will eventually show up on your list if you are accepted. KEEP CHECKING BACK!

We have not received the results for the applications for the Philosophy course. We have received the list of persons approved for Psychology and are in the process of entering them.

Here are the instructions which were handed out in HR today:

Course selection procedures

The teachers will soon be selecting the courses that they feel are the most appropriate for you to take next year.

For the current members of the classes of 2012 and 2013, you will be getting a list of these courses in Homeroom on or about February 11 and will then have an opportunity to request changes to those courses. If members of these classes wish to enroll in one of the classes which require an application, download the application form the "wiki" contained in this area of the web site and submit it to the appropriate party. If you are approved for that course, it will appear on your tentative list of courses which will be given to you in Homeroom on February 11.

NEXT YEAR'S SENIORS:

For members of the class of 2011 (next year's Seniors), You are currently being placed in an English and Social Studies class by your teachers. Every one of next year's seniors will be placed in Guidance, Bowling and Theology 12.

NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES TO THEOLOGY 12, FILL OUT THE APPLICATION AND SUBMIT IT TO BROTHER RICHARD as soon as possible.

Beginning on or about February 2, 2010, you will be able to select your Senior elective courses using The Friar Portal. You must select 3 credits of electives, but no more than 3.5 credits of electives. You also must register for Health if you still need to take it. If you need to take Health, then you will be limited to 3 credits of elective courses.

Theology courses: All students will notice on The Friar Portal that they are registered for Theology 12. Please note that this placement is tentative and may change if you have submitted an application to take Catechetics or the St. Francis/St. Paul alternative to Theology 12 in a timely manner. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS LIKELY THAT YOU WILL NOT FIND OUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU WERE ACCEPTED INTO ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES TO THEOLOGY 12 UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR LIST OF COURSES ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 11, 2010. THEREFORE, IF YOU SEE THEOLOGY 12 ON YOUR LIST OF COURSES WHEN YOU LOG ONTO The Friar Portal, IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT YOU HAVE BEEN DENIED ENTRY INTO A DIFFERENT THEOLOGY COURSE. IT SIMPLY MEANS THAT THE APPLICATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN PROCESSED YET.

Science courses: Please note that the only Science courses that you can select on the computer are Chemistry and Physics. EVERY OTHER SCIENCE COURSE REQUIRES AN APPLICATION. If you have submitted an application for a science course, it MAY OR MAY NOT appear in your list of courses on The Friar Portal, depending on when you submitted the form and how long it will take the forms to be processed. If you would like to take a science and have not taken Chemistry or Physics, then you can select one of those two courses. If you are approved for a science course which required an application, that course will be added to your schedule and the one that you selected on The Friar Portal will be deleted. PLEASE NOTE THAT SCIENCE COURSES THAT REQUIRE AN APPLICATION MIGHT NOT BE PROCESSED UNTIL THE ULTIMATE LIST OF COURSES YOU REQUESTED IS SENT TO YOU IN HOMEROOM ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 11. Therefore, if you do not see the Science course you applied for on your list of courses when you log onto The Friar Portal to select electives, DO NOT INFER THAT YOU WERE DENIED. It could simply mean that the forms have not been processed. Continue to sign up for enough credits to graduate, and if a Science course is added to your schedule, adjustments can be made during the period of time set aside for schedule modifications.

Please direct any questions regarding Scheduling to Mr. Kristiansen at wkk@stanthonyshs.org.
